OFFICIAL Q&A FOR THE NATIONAL "BETTER HOUSING" DESIGN COMPETITION (PART I)

I. Registration Questions

Q: Is registration done individually or through an institution? Are there restrictions on team size? Can teams register? Can designers from multiple institutions collaborate? The notice states that each entry must designate one Lead Designer, and certificates will only be issued to the Lead Designer. Does this mean other team members will not receive certificates?

A: The competition aims to inspire creativity among designers and students, leveraging "good design" to create housing solutions that meet people’s needs. As outlined in the official rules:

- Each entry must designate one Lead Designer, whose information (and affiliated institution/school) will be recorded in the registration system.

- The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development will award certificates only to the Lead Designer of winning entries.

- Institutions and universities are encouraged to participate actively. Collaborative frameworks between institutions, universities, and Lead Designers will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

II. Group Eligibility Questions

Q: Can associate-degree students participate? How about on-the-job graduate students employed at research institutes? Which group should on-the-job graduates, postdoctoral researchers, or faculty members join? Can design department staff from development/construction companies participate?

A: Participation is open to:

- Student Group: Full-time students in associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral programs.

- Professional Group: on-the-job postgraduates (including master’s/PhD candidates), postdoctoral researchers, faculty members, and design department staff from design institutes, real estate developers, or construction companies.

III. Submission Requirements

Q: Can project marketing names (e.g., property branding) appear in submissions? Are construction drawings required?

A: This competition focuses on conceptual innovation, not specific project implementation. Submissions must:

- Exclude commercial identifiers like project names.

- Highlight creative concepts, innovative applications of new technologies/materials, and alignment with residents’ needs to enhance living spaces.

- Meet schematic design detail standards (construction drawings are not required).

Thank you for your engagement! We look forward to your participation in the National "Better Housing" Design Competition.
